History of Our Program
Shady Creek Outdoor Education Program, formerly known as Woodleaf Outdoor School, when a site and facility were purchased by Sutter County in 2006. Our program with humble beginnings in Butte Meadows in 1958 has been growing and hosting students from the Yuba-Sutter area for 60 years.
The Shady Creek Outdoor Education site is at 18601 Pathfinder Way, Nevada City, California and hosts nearly 5000 students each school year. Currently under the direction of Shannon Cueva, this program has thrived under the direction and development of Jack King, Jack Murtha and for thirty years under (Tipi) John Hendrickson, the transition to our site under George Stratman.
Shady Creek Outdoor Education Foundation (SCOEF) earlier known as Woodleaf Foundation was founded in 1990 to support the Sutter County Outdoor Education Program, which is operated by the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools Office and is open for participation to any public, private, or home school organization seeking to augment their science program.
